I first watched Neon Genisis Evangelion with my best friend Wes about 4 years ago. It was a great experience and I’ve watched the newer remake/ rebuild series last year when 3.0 + 1.0 Thrice Upon a Time was released. Many people call Shinji a coward and a loser, but I think people often forget that he’s only a 14-year-old boy fighting unspeakable horrifying monsters and has the responsibility of defending the last remnants of humanity thrust upon him, and this stress and burden often weighs down on him and makes him feel guilty for his difficulties of rising up to the challenge of defending humanity, all this plus he’s developed a complex from Gendo his father not loving him and being both distant and demanding, only showing him affection when Shinji is able to successfully complete a mission… All I’m saying is give Shinji a break, the young man is trying his best.
